My work takes me all over the country searching trees for bat roosts in all kinds of features. The enjoyment of finding a bat or a group of bats in a tree roost never gets boring, even if it’s a species we may encounter on a regular basis. As well as bats I have a passion for all British wildlife and spend a lot of my free time visiting local nature reserves. Hedgehogs are one species I’ve worked closely with over the years, having spent many hours volunteering in a hedgehog rescue and rehabilitation hospital. I’m always keen to learn something new.

I’m a very active committee member of both Bedfordshire and Herts and Middlesex bat groups. We monitor various bat species over these counties, collecting data which contributes to knowledge of how bat populations are faring and research which can be used on a national scale. We carry out Bat Box checks, Transects, Emergence, Trapping, Activity and Hibernation surveys at a vast number of sites. We are also active bat carers, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing grounded or injured bats as part of Herts and Middlesex Bat group. We are also members of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Amphibian and Reptile group.
